General impressions-getting to Kashmir, (India) and home again

My shuttle flight to San Francisco couldn't land because of bad weather and circled San Francisco for thirty minutes. The stewardess let me off the plane first to the irritation of the first class passengers and I ran through much of a very large terminal and got to my flight for the Orient just as they were closing the doors.
It is a very long flight across the Pacific Ocean. Here are the highlights that stand out:
Leaving Seattle the plane heads northwest to get east because the great circle route is the shortest. This took us to the Aleutian Islands of Alaska which were rugged and beautiful.
Talking to the head steward, who had lived in Seattle, I learned he had mountain climbed with the Northwest's world famous mountain climber Jim Whittaker.
Halfway across the Pacific the lights went out and there were muffled screams. It seemed like the plane started heading down slightly. The steward came back to our section and would look out the window at the engines and then go to the phone and talk to the captain. He repeated this several times and then the lights came on. I have been told by a friend who worked for Boeing the power generator for the lights is in the engine and we probably lost one engine and it had to be restarted and the steward was looking to see if the captain was able to restart the engine.

To be continued

Pray for peace in Kashmir(India).
