Kashmir introduction continued

Apart from other consequences, the turmoil left behind a trail of misery and destitution of incalculable magnitude. Despite half a century of planned development, Jammu and Kashmir continues to be one of the most neglected places with vast areas steeped in extreme backwardness and millions faced with poverty, illiteracy, hunger and disease. Unemployment is rampant among educated youth and thousands are added to their numbers every year. As a result, frustration has gripped the upcoming generation with ominous portents, including the drug scourge and a disturbing rise in crime.
